War of Desire

Overcome your temptations. Win the war within.

War of Desire is my first book, written for anyone tired of fighting the same temptation the same way. It draws on the ancient formation tradition of the church and the best of modern psychology to show why willpower fails and what real transformation requires.

Does this sound familiar?

You’ve fought the same temptation for years, and you’re exhausted.

There’s a gap between who you are in public and who you are alone.

Accountability has brought more shame, not more freedom.

You want to be free, not just managed.

War of Desire was written for you.

What you’ll discover

Why willpower fails, and what works instead.

The Five Strongholds, and the virtue that answers each one.

How to answer “Why can’t I just stop?” with clarity instead of shame.

Why community isn’t optional, and how to find the kind that helps.

Don’t just read the book

Free tools for readers and a guided prayer experience to help you go deeper.

Hi, I’m Josh Kalsbeek.

I’m a psychotherapist, coach, writer, clinical supervisor, clinical director, husband, and father. I am obsessed with understanding and experiencing deep transformation, then helping others experience that change.

Overcome Sexual Struggles. Restore Intimate Connection.

Join hundreds of men and couples finding freedom from unwanted sexual behavior and rebuilding trust and intimacy through proven psychological and spiritual principles.

I have spent more than ten thousand hours over more than 15 years doing a combination of psychotherapy, spiritual direction, coaching, and deeply studying psychology and spirituality. Yet formal study can only take one so far. I believe that in order to help others experience deep growth I must start with myself first, so my first goal is to be on a lifelong journey of transformation.

I love writing, creating, trail running, and working out in my garage, especially with kettlebells and sandbags! I am a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist in Nevada (4167-R), Arizona (LMFT-15594), and Colorado (MFT.0001545), have an Addiction Studies Certificate, and a Masters in Marriage and Family Therapy from Western Seminary in San Jose, CA.

I am a clinical fellow in the American Association of Marriage and Family Therapists.
